Fifty states, fifty capitals, one deck. Each card shows a state on the front and its capital on the back — flip, check, and grade yourself. Cards you mark "still learning" cycle back around before the session ends, so the deck naturally spends more time on Pierre and Frankfort than on Boston and Austin.

State capitals are a classic memorization task because so many of them are counterintuitive. The biggest city usually isn't the capital: New York's is Albany, California's is Sacramento, Texas's is Austin rather than Houston, and Washington state's is Olympia, not Seattle. That mismatch is exactly why passive review fails here — you have to actually retrieve the answer, be wrong a few times, and let the correction sink in. Flash cards force that retrieval.

This deck works for a fourth-grade geography unit, a citizenship-test refresher, or trivia-night prep.
